Nordstrom Rack Online, Better than a Nordstrom Coupon

My job at Dealio is to make shopping more affordable for all. I am often asked by friends, family, and Dealio readers for an ever-elusive Nordstrom coupon. Unfortunately, these coupons are hard to come by. The reason is that Nordstrom has a brick and mortar outlet store for past-season merchandise – Nordstrom Rack. Therefore, they don’t need to heavily discount existing merchandise via a coupon.
I love to find a great deal, especially from my favorite department stores higher-end brands. So when I discovered that Nordstrom Rack first opened a brick and mortar store “near” my home (and I use the word “near” loosely because it’s still almost an hour away) I gave a cheer.
Here’s why I love Nordstrom Rack:
1. Wide selection. Many people associate Nordstrom Rack with great shoes and women’s fashion (this is true). However, they also carry products like luggage, sheets, men’s clothing (including great deals on suits), and cosmetics.
2. New selection. Nordstrom Rack gets their inventory in three ways: first is directly from Nordstrom stores, second is through Nordstrom.com, and third is through direct order from the retailer. The best part is that the merchandise is all current. What does this mean? That the clothes you saw just a few months ago for full price is now 50-60% off!
3. Great prices. The obvious benefit about Nordstrom Rack are the great deals. The downside is that the service isn’t up to par with Nordstrom. They can’t be as generous with returns and that’s understandable. However, you still get a reasonable 60 day to return products that still have tags on them.
For those of you who don’t live near a Rack, I feel your pain. But, there’s great news - Nordstrom.com now is now selling Nordstrom Rack merchandise on their website.
The fact that you can now shop the Rack from the comfort of their own home is amazing because you can get the benefit of the Nordstrom Rack mentioned above without the unfortunate downfalls of discount shopping: horrible store organization (e.g. clothes jammed into racks, shoved onto shelves), less than stellar service, and long lines.
Nordstrom Rack online is an oasis. You can shop online (thereby avoiding the aforementioned in-store chaos), easily see all the products for sale (modeled beautifully), and filter your search by size or type (no more digging for deals). If you encounter buyer’s remorse, you can even return in-store. Lastly, Nordstrom Rack online purchases qualify for the $200 free shipping threshold and can be ordered with your regular Nordstrom.com products.

The tiny downside for Nordstrom Rack online for the truly great bargain hunters is that you won’t score as big of deals (e.g. additional 60% off of marked down prices) as you would during their tag sales. But, all-in-all, this offering by Nordstrom is a huge win for Recessionistas everywhere. Keep in mind as with all great deals, popular items will sell out fast! So don’t delay!
