Walmart Black Friday 2010 Deals: Worth the Wait?
Posted by missmelon on November 25, 2010 in Uncategorized
This Black Friday, most Walmart will open at 4:00 am though some may open as early as midnight. Here at Dealio, we meticulously went through each product on the leaked Black Friday list and compared prices using Google Product Search. Based on the price, we then sorted the Walmart Black Friday sale products into 3 categories: Buy in Store, Buy Online and Buy Either.
Our data analysis did not include marketplace items (e.g. eBay, eCrater, Bonanzle) because we couldn’t confirm that all products were new. To compare apple to apples, we did not want to include used or refurbished product prices.
Here are the top products not worth waiting in line for those that are worth your time. To view and download the full list, please click here.
Not worth the wait:
- If you’re in the market for a blu-ray DVD, chances are, you can find it cheaper online. Amazon has some very competitive prices on new releases – starting as low as $5 and it looks like Walmart is trying to match these prices. On the other hand, If you’re looking for video games, then going in-store makes sense as you’ll save an average of 25%.
- HP inks are on average 35% cheaper online and the HP Photosmart Plus Wireless printer is also 11% cheaper online.
- SanDisk 4GB flash drive is just $5 on Amazon versus the $8 in-store.
- Microsoft Xbox 360 with Kinect is just $0.99 more at Overstock.com (very limited quantities). You’ll get the added benefit of $1 or shipping to your door and no taxes. However, if you’re looking for the 4GB Xbox with Kinect game bundle, then you’ll save 17% in-store. .
- Walmart’s online listings surfaced often in the Google Product Search. The Lifetime Portable Basketball Hoop is available online for $90. That’s a savings of $9 over the in-store price.
- The big ticket items that aren’t worth freezing for is the Samsung 46” UN46C5000 and LN46C600 HDTV. Both are less than $2 cheaper in-store though you’ll have to pay a shipping fee.
Worth the wait:
- Walmart doesn’t disappoint with the toy deals. The best are the $15 Fisher Price Sit to Stand Giraffe at 70% off and the $88 Hot Wheels/Barbie Jeeps both at more than 60% off.
- There is a very limited number of the Brother Project Runway sewing machine for just $50. They aren’t clear about the model and it makes a big difference as the range is $135 – $499.
- The Magnavox Wi-Fi Blu-ray disk player is a good deal at just $69, a savings of 56%. For a higher end player, the Philips Blue-ray is $198, a savings of 40%.
- The two laptops that are the best deal is the $198 eMachine $298 HP machines. Both are 15.6” and share similar specs. They are between 36-45% off.
- The big ticket items are always the HDTV’s. This year is a bit disappointing as the only two worthwhile items are the $378 Vizio 37” which is 16% off and the $779 Element 55” which is 11% off.
Lastly, there are a quite a few items, namely the Samsung and Bravia HDTV that are about the same price online. The same can be said for digital cameras, no stand-out deals that you can’t find on Amazon.
Overall, Walmart has done a great job in putting together some outstanding Black Friday 2010 deals. However, if you’re mainly going for the electronics – it may be more worthwhile to look online.
