Free Food: McDonald’s Southern Style Chicken Biscuit or Sandwich
Posted by missmelon on August 16, 2008 in Daily Deals
McDonald’s has gotten into the spirit of the Olympic games by creating a fun game called, “Face the Glory” with Donny Robinson (BMX rider competing for the gold medal) and a free offer. The game is pretty simple – upload a picture of yourself and “appear” as the faces of the many athletes featured in a McDonald’s commercial for the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit and Sandwich. Now, your face won’t actually appear in the ad on TV, but you can send this video to your friends to tout your “inner athleticism”. For those of you who want to just get down to business (free business, that is) click on the “Get a Free Offer” button, fill out some info and tada get a coupon for a free Southern Style Chicken Biscuit or Sandwich with any medium or large beverage purchase. Hurry as this offer expires on 9/1/08.

Shop Green: Target Re-usable Bags
Posted by Julia on August 15, 2008 in Eco-Friendly
Target is doing their part to promote recycled items by offering re-usable bags to prevent excessive waste in addition to working to build more energy efficient stores. Three stores have received LEED recognition (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for sustainable building practices, efficient water and energy use and conservation, and recycling of materials used in construction. Target also emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community, and donates 5% of proceeds to education and the arts. This just furthers my love of this store – now if they would limit their plastic bag usage…
Attention Target shoppers! Reuse to Reduce totes are now on sale in the See Spot Save section of any store for only $0.99!
Help the environment by carrying your purchases in one of these cute totes, which were made of recycled plastic Target bags. Only $5.99; in store only!

JCrew Coupon Alert: Extra 30% off Sale Items
Posted by missmelon on August 14, 2008 in Daily Deals, Fashion
J. Crew is evil. Just when I think I’m done with my summer shopping – just when I feel good that I’ve been saving instead of spending, J. Crew releases a coupon code that is good for an additional 30% off of sale items. Granted, the 30% discount makes these final sale items which can’t be returned. However, I’ve been lusting after some of these pieces all season. If you calculate the savings percentage, it’s about 70% off retail price. That’s a great deal and that’s a deal which can’t be passed up. I should actually reward myself for purchasing now, rather than at the beginning of the sale when the prices weren’t as low and the discounts not as high. Some of my favorites are below. Crew Cuts (J. Crew for kids) is having a particularly good sale.
J. Crew Coupon Code: EXTRA30
Expires: Unknown, but I’d hurry as their codes tend to only last about a week or so.

Free Food: Chipotle Mexican Grill – Free Burrito Day
Posted by Julia on August 13, 2008 in Daily Deals
Haven’t tried Chipotle? Well, be sure to on October 31st. Every Halloween, Chipotle gives away a free burrito to anyone dressed up like a burrito. This is easier than you think as a burrito is essentially tinfoil. Therefore, show up wearing any kind of tinfoil and get a free burrito from Chipotle.
I tip my hat to Chipotle. Not only is it delicious, well-balanced, fast, and affordable, but they are setting the bar for fresh, healthy ingridents and eco-friendly practices. All of the napkins are unbleached and made from 90% recycled paper. The packaging used is minimal and the bowls are biodegradable. “I know they kept meticulous records of how much food is wasted each shift, and adjust how much they prepare each time accordingly,” a former Chipotle employee and good friend of mine tells me.
Chipotle franchises use almost all free-range animals to produce the meat. It comes from animals that are raised naturally and without growth hormones and who are raised on a vegetarian diet. The beef and chicken are exclusively free-range, the pork carried is free-range at 50% of Chipotle locations. Go online to see what Chipotle has done in your state! My local restaurant only sells drug-free meat.
Please support Chipotle and encourage them to keep it up! Try to give business to companies that support sustainable living and healthy lifestyles, and make sure you let them know that you appreciate their eco-friendly attitude!

Fashion Scoop: Indi Custom Denim Jeans
Posted by missmelon on August 9, 2008 in Fashion
Indi is a new company that is offering custom jeans designed to uniquely fit your body. When I first heard of the idea, I was admittedly skeptical. I’m a bit of a denim snob and am not sure if these will live up to their promise. However, I’ve explored their site and found the process and choices to be pretty interesting. First, you’re not starting from scratch. For women, they have you choose from three basic styles: SoMa, Noe and Presidio (definitely a San Francisco-based company). From there you can select everything from the rise to the fly (button or zip) to the leg style (options are outlined in the photo below). They definitely get down to the nitty gritty – allowing you to choose distressing, sanding, creasing, whiskering and even tacking (didn’t know what that meant either). Lastly, you pop in your information such as height, weight, bra band size (strange), inseam and more. They also ask you to indicate your tummy, wasit, thigh, and seat shape (thankfully using photos). The whole process takes less than 20 minutes and I felt like I learned a little bit about the denim design process just by going through their easy-to-use creation process. They also offer custom jeans for men – two initial styles. Jeans take approximately 4 weeks to make and ship. Cost ranges from $135 to $145 which is about the average price for a pair of premium denim. Curious? Well, Indi also offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
