Baby Scoop: Alternatives to Plastic Sippy Cups

Posted by missmelon on July 19, 2008 in Babies & Kids

There has been a lot of discussion around the dangers of the Bisphenol-A (BPA) chemical which is used to produce polycarbonate plastics – the same plastic found in a large number of cups and bottles for children.  Parents seeking a safer alternative are in luck because there are many options that they can now choose from.  I’ve done some research and found these three metal cups to consistently rank well.  This review from the Z Recs blog is particularly detailed and helpful.

Klean Kateen Sippy Cup - Retails $19.95

The Klean Kanteen sippy cup is made from electropolished stainless steel which makes it easy to clean, durable, and non-leaching (as it is not lined).  It is great for both hot and cold liquids and is 100% recyclable.

SIGG Baby Water Bottle - Retails for $17

The baby bottles by SIGG come in a variety of brightly colored designs.  They are light, spill-proof, leak-proof and extremely durable.  The interior lining protects completely against residue and build-up.  Additionally, they are completely recyclable.

Foogo by Thermos Sippy Cup - Retails for $14.99

The Foogo by Thermos sippy cup has a vacuum insulated stainless steel interior and insulated to keep drinks cold and fresh for up to 6 hours.  It’s break-proof, has an extra wide mouth with rubber grip.  Comes in blue and pink colors.
